Tasters Review:
Although this one isn’t my favorite offering from Golden Moon I didn’t think Madagascar Vanilla was bad either. I did find some interesting traits and characteristics that I would like to share! First…the aroma! It smells nice both before, during, and after infusion. It ‘brews’ dark brown and is quite mellow in taste. I’m more of a “In Your Face” Bold and Black Tea Drinker for the first cup of the day and when I first sampled this it was my first cup of the day. I didn’t think it was overly strong but it makes a nice mid morning or afternoon flavored Black Tea. Overall it was an ‘alright cup’ but I was looking for something stronger for first thing in the morning. If you like a mellower black tea…this one might be right up your alley!

I have been on a Black/Green Kick lately!  There are just some blacks and greens that do go good together and when you add something link mint to it – I’m always game!  For this particular one, I think you can taste the Gunpowder Green more than the black tea but the Mint is what makes it in more ways than one.  Here is what I mean by that…if you like Mint,  you will probably like this.  If you like flavored black tea -  you are certainly going to want to try this.  And if you are into greens that are blended with others – you can’t pass this up!  On the other hand…if you aren’t sure about gunpowder and are willing to give it another try – TRY THIS.  I repeat TRY THIS.  The Gunpowder and mint go together perfectly.  It takes away from the grassy taste and the aftertaste is pure minty goodness!  I would classify this as a very versatile blend!  It would appeal to many and maybe even gain some newbies to try new things and find their love of gun powder teas and/or black & Green blends.  In addition…if you are worried there is too much mint – I don’t believe there is.  I’m a huge mint fan…and usually the more the merrier but feel this is one of those ‘just enough mint’ type scenarios!  Overall this is one of my favorite TeaFrog Teas so far!  Thumbs up on this one from me!

Rooibos, in my bizarre tea-description vernacular, is the sensory equivalent of a favorite faded and ratty flannel shirt. My favorite rooibos add-ins are gentle comfort flavors like chocolate, vanilla, almond, and cream. Since lemongrass is a nice, gentle tisane on its own, I reasoned it would be a nice blend-in for rooibos, prompting my sample cup of TeaFrog’s Kalahari Flavored Rooibos.

I followed the vendor prep suggestions, leaning toward the six minute mark for steeping time. The first thing that caught my eye was the beautiful red-gold velvet color of the finished cup. The first thing that caught my taste buds was the citrus–not only the lemongrass, but the hint of lime flavoring mentioned on the TeaFrog website.

Instead of blending smoothly and unobtrusively, the citrus and rooibos flavors do sort of a tap dance on your tongue, hitting your senses separately all the way down. This is a pleasant combination that would be enjoyable to citrus lovers looking for an herbal alternative to flavored black tea.

Blood oranges fascinate me. I know they are becoming more popular (like the surge of pomegranate flavors over the last 3 years), but they still seems exotic, unusual and downright fascinating. It’s the dark red color of the fruit’s flesh combined with the bright citrus flavor that just get my mouth watering!

My first impression is that this tea smells awesome; dark and sweet and tangy. And upon the first sip, the taste lives up to the smell. I brewed this up in my zarafina tea maker at work, and added half a packet of sweetener and the first cup disappeared within minutes. So did the second cup. And the third. Additionally, it withstood a second brewing quite well. Which is a little unusual for a highly flavored black tea. This helps in making this tea a good value for your money – always a bonus!

I’d recommend this tea to anyone who likes black teas and citrus flavors. It tastes great and is a good value.

This smells like black tea, fruit, and floral. It’s a nice Reddish-dark brown. Taste-wise it is really good… a sugary-sweet tasting flavored black. It reminds me of Rose Marzipan from Teavana without the Rose…you know that candied-sugar cube in that blend…that is what the sugar-sweet taste reminds me of.  There is a floral back-end to it but NOT an intense rose…it’s a delicate type floral…very nice!  I would rate this one VERY HIGH on my LIKE to LOVE scale ANY day of the week!  What a great Flavored Black Tea!
