And here I am, with my first sample of Tea Forte. From a tea swap, as I can't imagine pating their ridiculous prices. But I can't see putting an Oolong in any sort of bag.

I agree with Lainie - Whole-leaf oolongs in a bag rarely end well.

Full disclosure here - I've done some copywriting work for Tea Forte so I don't review their products on my blog these days. But I did want to say that I tried their Silk Oolong in the loose leaf form and thought it was excellent. (I did receive it as a sample from the company.) It's actually the first Silk Oolong I've really enjoyed. Sorry to hear that the bagged version was so disappointing.

I will never understand why tea companies put whole-leaf oolong into any sort of a bag or pouch. The pyramid-bag thing works well enough for smaller and broken leaf teas, but is completely unsuitable for an oolong. These tea companies should know this and simply refrain from putting oolongs into teabags.
